What does it mean to be a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a woman? It means that you are a badass and that today more than at any other time in history your innate power is tipping the scales toward more equality.
Three examples that demonstrate the immense power of women in today’s world of business and leadership are,Mary Barra -Chairman and CEO of General Motors Company – the first female CEO of a major global automotive maker, Ginni Rometty -current chair, president, and CEO of IBM, and the first woman to head the company and Indra Nooyi -current Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo.
Use your power
Power can be defined as the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. As a woman now more than ever is the time for you to use your power. Stop waiting to be “empowered” in order to create your life your way. You already possess the power within your to influence the course of events and in many cases the behavior of others. Start that business, get that raise, write that book or that screenplay. You don’t need anyone’s permission, blessings or understanding to create the life you want and deserve to live and what’s more, you have the power to make it happen. Need proof?
According to National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), women account for “more than 11.6 million firms, employing nearly 9 million people, and generate $1.7 trillion in sales as of 2017.” Eleven point six million! This wasn’t accomplished by women who waited to for permission to become empowered or who concerned themselves with what others may think. It was accomplished by women who recognized and awakened their innate power and demanded the life they wanted.
Shift in power
You may be familiar with the “Golden Rule,” “He who holds the gold makes the rules.” In the future, given the current trend with women in business, that rule may well be, “She who holds the gold makes the rules.” It is estimated that by the year 2020 women will control two-thirds of private wealth. That is a massive shift in power.
Technology has helped in this massive shift in power. Everywhere you point and click you find women in business reaching out to other women. Women helping to educate, support, encourage and motivate one another toward a common goal. Do you want to become physically fit? There’s a woman out there who will help you. Are you having trouble in your family? There’s a woman out there who will help you. Are you in need of legal assistance? There’s a woman out there who will help you. My point is, women have created a massive global community that is catapulting them into a fantastic future.
First female pharaoh
It’s been said that, “People have done more with much less.” By way of an illustration, let’s visit Egypt and Queen Hatshepsut. She was the first female pharaoh of Egypt and reigned between 1473 and 1458 B.C. She unilaterally made the decision to become Egypt’s Pharaoh a few years after the death of her predecessor. The elite in Egypt told Queen Hatshepsut that there was no way she could be the Pharaoh of Egypt.
There had never been a woman to rule as pharaoh. She however exercised her innate power and didn’t take “no” for an answer. Instead she influenced the behavior or the elite and they agreed to recognize her as Pharaoh of Egypt. With a foreign policy based upon trade instead of war, Egypt was primarily peaceful under her reign. She is accredited with restoration and building projects from temples and monuments to buildings, out shining the building projects of her predecessors. Prior to her reign, no other Egyptian ruler had been as successful in voyage and trade with Punt, believed to have been located in northeastern Africa. All of this was accomplished with much less than what is at our disposal in today’s technically advanced world.
Be about it. Do it.
There are countless unnamed women past and present who have recognized their innate power and have moved mountains to become powerful role models, pioneers, philanthropists and leaders. They’ve improved their own lives, the lives of family and friends and the lives of those in their communities and the world. Today there are more opportunities, resources, and support for women than ever before in history. If you’re thinking of tapping into and unleashing your innate power, NXTFOCUS says, “STOP thinking about it and start DOING something about it”.
Don’t talk about what you’re going to do. Be about it. Do it. Don’t think about waiting for everything in your life to get fixed first. Be about it. Do it. Don’t create a cleverly worded vague post on social media. Be about it. Do it. Decide right now that you do have the power to create your life, your way.
