We all are guilty of errors in our reasoning, it’s part of what makes us human. The problem lies in our inability at times to recognize when our errors stem from false reasoning or examination. Many times our reasoning is based upon what we think we remember or believe we’ve heard in the past. Then regardless of proof or information to the contrary we dogmatically hold to our view as fact.
What do we mean? We mean, if you put a frog in lukewarm water and slowly increase the temperature, the frog will jump out. This is an example of a cognitive bias and it’s why many today have become their own source of hindrance in creating financial independence or wealth for themselves. Take for example a person raised in a home where parents constantly argue about money, or perhaps there is constant negative talk about wealth and rich people. This environment can help to cultivate a negative cognitive bias toward wealth and those who have it.
Money is not evil
There are many today who want to perform huge acts of kindness or who have a philanthropic desire or simply want a better life for their family and themselves. Their mistaken reasoning however says that, “money is the root of all evil.” Their bias obscures the fact that “the love of money is the root of all evil” and will keep them from wealth.
If your dream life is to provide for those with less, travel the world, donate to worthy causes, pay your parents house off or surprise a family in need for example, you will need money. We at times believe a thing simply because, it’s what we’ve always heard. Wealth isn’t evil and a frog won’t sit in water to be boiled to death. It doesn’t matter how many times a falsehood is repeated, it’s still false.
Recognize your limiting beliefs about wealth
We want you to be able to recognize your limiting belief or cognitive bias towards money and begin to reprogram your mind as a wealth creator. We want you to be successful because it creates a domino effect. We’ve been helped to succeed and now it’s our responsibility to help others and so on. One way to accomplish this is to help you identify the ways your limiting beliefs could potentially manifest. Dzanella Tihic, the founder of NXTFOCUS has published an ebook, “How To Attract More Money In Your Life,” that will help you do just that and more. What follows is a list from her book that will help you to identify some of the signs of a negative bias towards money:
When you make excuses.
When you complain about things.
When you indulge in negative thoughts.
When you indulge in unhelpful habits.
When you talk to yourself in limiting and unhelpful ways.
When you jump to conclusions and/or make assumptions.
When you hesitate or express your fears.
When you worry about failure or about making mistakes.
When you worry uncontrollably for no apparent reason.
When you think about procrastinating.
When you think about indulging in perfectionism.
